About this service

Emergency electrical repairs: what to expect

Some electrical problems can wait for a convenient visit. Others mean heat is building where you cannot see it. Emergency repairs cover the urgent problems: a lost circuit, a breaker that will not hold, an outlet running warm, or a burning odor. The goal is to make the area safe first, then find and fix the cause.

  • Signs you need help now

Call right away if you notice a burning or fishy smell with no clear source, especially near outlets or the panel. An outlet or switch plate that feels hot, or shows browning or scorch marks, is also a warning. Buzzing, sizzling or sparking from a wall, switch or panel, and a breaker that trips again as soon as you reset it, need prompt attention too. A warm outlet usually points to a loose or corroded connection behind the wall.

If you see smoke or flames, leave the home and call 911 first. Otherwise, switch off the breaker for the affected circuit if you can reach it safely, and stop using that outlet.

  • How the emergency visit goes

When you call, we send an electrician as soon as the schedule allows, with same-day service when possible. The electrician checks the breaker, outlet or panel, tests the circuit for heat and loose connections, and explains what was found before any work begins. Typical fixes include replacing a failed breaker or device, repairing damaged wiring, or isolating a circuit until a permanent repair is scheduled.

  • What affects the cost

The cost depends on what failed and how far the damage reaches. A worn outlet or a single breaker is a small job. Heat-damaged wiring inside walls, a stressed panel, or several affected circuits takes more time and materials. Access matters too, since work behind finished walls or in a crowded panel room adds labor. If the repair grows beyond the emergency, you receive a free written estimate before further work goes ahead.

  • Permits and safety

Like-for-like replacements of a breaker, outlet or fixture often do not need a permit. Work that adds circuits or changes wiring generally does in California, and the electrician will tell you which applies before starting. Permitted work is inspected by the local building department.

“Alex took the time to debug my panels and found I had plenty of amperage for my projects, when other electricians were trying to upsell me on more amps than I needed. He was also the only one ensuring we get a permit and do everything the right way.”

Do you offer same-day emergency service?

Yes. We are open 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, and offer same-day service when the schedule allows.

What should I do before the electrician arrives?

If you see smoke or flames, leave and call 911. Otherwise, switch off the breaker for that circuit if you can do it safely, and stop using the affected outlet or fixture.

Is a warm outlet an emergency?

It should be treated as urgent. Heat behind an outlet can start a fire, so stop using it and have it checked the same day.

Are you licensed and insured?

Will emergency repairs need a permit?

Simple like-for-like replacements often do not. Work that adds circuits or changes wiring generally does, and we will confirm which applies before starting.
