About this service

## EV charger installation: what to expect

An EV charger installation gives your car a dedicated Level 2 circuit, usually rated 40 to 60 amps, so it can charge overnight at home or at a workplace. It suits drivers who charge most nights and find a standard wall outlet too slow or unreliable for daily use.

What's included

- Level 2, 40A to 60A circuits
- Tesla, ChargePoint, Emporia and more
- Load management if the panel is tight

- ### Signs You Need a Charger
A regular 120-volt outlet adds only a trickle of range each hour, so it works for light use but struggles with a full day of driving. If your car is low by morning every time you plug it in, or your garage has no outlet near where you park, a Level 2 unit is usually the better fit.
- ### How the Job Goes
  - **Site visit:** we inspect your panel, the parking spot and the path for the cable.
  - **Load check:** we confirm the panel can carry a new circuit, or set up load management if it is tight.
  - **Installation:** we run the dedicated circuit, add the breaker, and mount and connect the charger.
  - **Testing and handover:** we test the charger and walk you through how it operates.
Circuit size matters. A 40-amp circuit typically supports about 32 amps of continuous charging, and a 60-amp circuit about 48 amps, because breakers are loaded to 80 percent for continuous use.
- ### What Affects the Cost
The main factors are the distance from the panel to the charging spot, since longer runs need more wire and conduit; whether walls, slabs or finished ceilings must be opened; the circuit size you choose; and whether the panel has spare capacity. Load management can often avoid a panel upgrade, which is usually the largest added expense. We provide a written estimate once we have seen your site.
- ### Permits and Safety
Local building departments treat a charger as new high-voltage work, so a permit is part of the job. State rules push cities toward quicker sign-off on home chargers. Before the job closes, the inspector looks over grounding, the breaker and how the unit is fastened to the wall. The charger itself should carry a UL listing.

Good questions

## Questions about ev charger installation.

What people ask before they book. Text us anything else.

**Do I need a permit for an EV charger in California?**

Yes. A Level 2 charger adds a new 240-volt circuit, so it requires an electrical permit. California law also requires cities and counties to offer a streamlined process for home chargers.

**Will my electrical panel handle a charger?**

Often it will, but we check the panel load before installing anything. When capacity is limited, load management can let the charger fit without a panel upgrade.

**What is the difference between Level 1 and Level 2 charging?**

Level 1 uses a standard 120-volt outlet and charges slowly. Level 2 uses a 240-volt circuit and charges much faster, which is why it is the common choice for home installs.

**Do I need a panel upgrade for a charger?**

Not always. Load management can often allow a charger on a tight panel, and we will tell you what your panel can support before any work begins.
